Royals Fall to Narrow Defeat in End-to-End Battle

In difficult conditions, the Royals were narrowly beaten 3–2 by Betteshanger in a fiercely contested, end-to-end encounter.

Betteshanger started the stronger of the two sides, controlling the early stages of the first half and pinning the Royals back inside their own half. Their pressure paid off in the 11th minute, when a ball played through the middle was latched onto and clinically finished to give the visitors the lead.

The Royals gradually worked their way back into the game, creating a number of promising chances, but were unable to find the equaliser before the break.

The second half saw a completely different Royals side emerge. With renewed energy and determination, they came flying out of the blocks and began to dominate proceedings, creating chance after chance.

Their breakthrough came in the 39th minute. Bailey showed great composure in midfield before feeding Archie S, who — for the second week running — delivered a perfectly weighted, defence-splitting pass into Joey. Joey took it in his stride, controlled superbly, and calmly slotted home to level the game.

Just three minutes later, the Royals turned the game on its head. Leighton launched a throw down the line to Joey, who again showed excellent control before driving a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Alex reacted quickest, arriving on cue to finish and give the Royals a deserved lead.

However, the game wasn’t done there.

Ten minutes later, Betteshanger pulled themselves back level. A sharp turn and powerful strike forced a brilliant save from Frankie, but the rebound wasn’t cleared, allowing a Betteshanger attacker to react first and fire home.

With momentum shifting again, Betteshanger struck the decisive blow just six minutes later. A ball worked across the edge of the box found their attacker, who set himself before producing a superb finish into the bottom corner to make it 3–2.

Despite pushing late on, the Royals couldn’t find another equaliser.

Standout performances came from Frankie and Preston, who were instrumental in keeping the Royals in the contest, while Alex and Joey led the attacking effort with resilience and quality to get the team on the scoresheet.

The Royals will look to bounce back as they return to home action against Rising Stars on 25th April.
